Mr. Crews is a 1989 graduate of the School of Public Health of the University of Michigan in the area of health policy and health administration, with additional training in health education and health care management. He has held public health positions with the Office of the Surgeon General - Health and Human Services and the Commonwealth of Virginia at the local and state levels. During his career, he has directed public health initiatives which have addressed reducing childhood injuries and childhood obesity; promoting techniques to assist healthcare providers to identify and reduce access service barriers for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients; providing needs assessment and strategy reports to municipalities regarding gaps in resources that affect the aging population; and supporting awareness regarding men's health by conducting initiatives focused on teaching men to become their own health advocates. Mr. Crews has led Congressional Advocacy Training Workshops for college students for the Society of Public Health Educators. Since 2003, he has served as a national board member for the Patient Advocacy Leadership Summit, which partners with national patient advocacy groups to address health policies that affect vulnerable populations. Mr. Crews has been an employee of the Eastern Virginia Medical School for the past 27 years as an Associate Professor in the School of Health Professions, and serves as Assistant Dean of Admissions and Enrollment. His community service includes serving the Chair of the South Norfolk Revitalization Commission in Chesapeake, VA.
